From
Los Angeles - Performing Saturday @ 9:00PM
Returning to The
Best Of The Best Sketch Fest for the 5th time, TROOP! will
be presenting their all-new post-apocalyptic long-form
sketch show “I, DOUGLASS,” a huge hit at this
year’s Sketchfest:NYC!
Ingredients: High fructose corn syrup, pregnant pauses,
children in peril, Rock, Roll, partially hydrogenated
soybean and/or cottonseed oil, men hung like dinosaurs, the
woman who loves them, loss (from concentrate), lengthy
diatribes, Yellow Dye No. 5 & 13, and regret marinated
in its own brine. Contains less than 2% plausibility, short
sentences, and Yellow Dyes 6 through 12.
Born from the fires of Boston, and forged with the hammers
of Los Angeles, the comedy group TROOP! has been rocking
audiences at fests across the country. Their material has
been featured on the National Lampoon Network, Fuse TV and
Showtime and they’re pleased as a punch in the face
that you see their show.
WHO ARE TROOP!?
With an
inimitable and smartly stupid sense of humor, the Los
Angeles sketch comedy team TROOP! has been amassing a loyal
audience across the country since 1997.
Considered the “sketch comedy group for sketch
comedian’s” TROOP! is known for its original
and off-beat take on the world. Whether the premise
features two candy flavors arguing or an encounter between
a Werewolf, Jason from “Friday the 13th,” and
The Invisible Ma n, their humor is always relatable and
timeless, even while being bizarre and contemporary.
A self-contained production, all members write and perform
completely original material in a workshop
environment. Each member brings his or her own
comedic style to the group - ranging from pointed premises
to telling caricature, self-aware monologues to gimcrack
windows into madness.
With a desire to explore the medium of sketch comedy and
experiment with its conventions, TROOP! created “I,
Douglass,” their first long-form experiment in sketch
comedy, which will debut at the New York City Sketch
Festival in June 2008. Based on a true
story…from the future, “I, Douglass” is
an absurdly epic adventure about an average Joe trying to
save a planet that’s already been destroyed. In
a post-apocalyptic world where ketchup packets are currency
and toilet paper is the most valued of commodities, a cast
of off-the-wall characters – all played by members of
TROOP! – create of sort of “Gilligan’s
Island” aft er the end of the world.
The six writer/performers of TROOP! are all alums of
Emerson College in Boston – the same school that
spawned such comics as Denis Leary, Steven Wright, Laura
Kightlinger, Anthony Clark, Jay Leno and David Cross.
Members Kevin Chesley, Britt Erickson, Steve Sabellico and
Bryan Shukoff all hail from The Emerson Comedy Workshop,
while Jason Dugre and Brent Simons sided with The Swolen
[sic] Monkey Showcase. The two troupes held a
friendly rivalry at Emerson and a combining of their
talents seemed inevitable.
Since forming in Los Angeles ten years ago, TROOP! has
performed at comedy institutions in the city such as The
Comedy Store, The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre,
ImprovOlympic West, HBO Workspace, El Cid’s Garage
Comedy, and M-Bar.
